Before starting Verdant, we did a significant amount of research to understand the scientific basis for hemp CBD’s benefits. While the U.S. government previously limited hemp CBD research (despite hemp’s use for thousands of years), the status quo has changed, and many early scientific studies have now been completed and more detailed studies are in process. Dr. Nora Volkow, the Director of the National Institute on Drug Abuse, testified before the Senate Drug Caucus regarding her summary of these studies:
- She believes conclusively that “CBD does not produce euphoria or intoxication” and that the “alterations in thinking and perception caused by THC are not observed with CBD”.
- She stated that “a review of 25 studies on the safety and efficacy of CBD did not identify significant side effects across a wide range of dosages, including acute and chronic dose regimens, using various modes of administration.”
- She argued that “rigorous clinical studies are still needed to evaluate the clinical potential of CBD for specific conditions. However, pre-clinical research (including both cell culture and animal models) has shown CBD to have a range of effects that may be therapeutically useful”.

We at Verdant don’t want to tell you what to think and we encourage you to do your own research. So, we’ve gathered some outside resources and will post them regularly to help you see what a variety of others are saying. Although there are early scientific indications and significant amounts of anecdotal stories, the medicinal science around CBD is certainly not settled or precise and we refuse to make any claims in this regard.
